Our baskets are made from plant fibres. They therefore wonderfully smell and feel like nature.
The water hyacinth is a tropical aquatic plant found on rivers and seas. It was originally brought from South America, but also from Southeast Asia. There it is considered a weed, as it multiplies incredibly quickly and can cover entire bodies of water with a carpet. The resulting lack of light and oxygen kills all underwater life that depends on plants. In order for the plants to then be processed for further processing, the leaves are removed and the thick stems are dried in the sun for three to seven days. The result is an abundant and versatile raw material for many woven goods here at Soeji!
