➤ The sustainable main material: rattan
This rapidly renewable raw material is obtained from rattan palms, which grow as climbing plants in the tropical forests of Indonesia. Their branches and stems are harvested by hand without harming the surrounding trees and then dried. The inside of the branches and stems is used in various thicknesses for furniture, baskets, or lamps, while the bark is cut into strips and used for filigree weaving, such as the well-known "Vienna weave." Since rattan palms need an intact ecosystem to grow, the processing of rattan provides an incentive for local populations to preserve healthy, natural forests.

In selecting our local production partners, we emphasize fair pay, safe working conditions, and reasonable working hours. We work exclusively with small family businesses employing a maximum of 20 to 30 people. All are experienced craftspeople of legal age. Especially older people, who can no longer work in agriculture, benefit from jobs in the handicraft sector, allowing them to use the skills they learned from a young age to earn money and pass on traditional production methods to the younger generation. They have often told us how happy they are to be able to create something meaningful with this work and earn a good income. Since all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process generates hardly any greenhouse gas emissions. We guarantee all of this through regular on-site visits and continuous personal contact with the companies.

Our Kamari vases are meticulously handmade by skilled artisans on the Indonesian island of Lombok. The process begins with hollowing out and shaping a round piece of wood to form the bottom half of the vase, creating a bowl-like base. The upper section is created by weaving thick rattan fibers, secured with fine strips of rattan bark. Finally, the entire vase is sprayed with a rich brown color. The creation of each vase branch
