Main material: banana fibers
Our wall decorations are made from plant fibers. They therefore smell and feel wonderfully natural.
Banana fibers are the fibers from the layered stems of banana trees used in agriculture. The intensely brown color develops naturally when the fibers are dried in the sun for about a week. The individual strips are then rolled into the characteristic, approximately 6 mm thick strands. Only old, dying banana trees are used for this material. This gives these crops a second life as a dimensionally stable and robust raw material for many handmade baskets here at Soeji.

This wall decoration is handmade in Java, Indonesia.
When selecting our local producers, we value fair wages and good working conditions. Only adult and experienced artisans work in the companies from which we purchase our goods. No harmful chemicals are used in the production process. As all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process generates hardly any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all this through regular on-site visits and permanent personal contact with the companies.
