Main material: water hyacinth
The water hyacinth is a tropical aquatic plant that grows on rivers and lakes. It actually comes from South America, but was also introduced to Southeast Asia. There it is considered a weed because it multiplies incredibly quickly and can cover entire bodies of water with a carpet of leaves. The resulting lack of light and oxygen causes all life underwater to die. Therefore, the plants must be removed regularly. To prepare the plants for further processing, the leaves are cut off and the thick stems are dried in the sun for three to seven days. The result is an abundant, sustainable raw material for many woven items here at Soeji!

No harmful chemicals are used in the production process. As all work steps are carried out by hand, hardly any consideration is given to greenhouse gas emissions during the production process. Through continuous presence on site and permanent contact with the companies, we ensure all stumps.
