The round Pura basket is entirely handmade from banana fibers. The attached white cotton cords are artfully woven in the traditional "Kawung" pattern and are a real eye-catcher. Especially in combination with a basket with black cords, like our Praya model, the result creates a fascinating contrast.
Pura convinces not only with its aesthetic design, but also with its well-thought-out functionality. Main material: banana fibers
Our baskets are made from plant fibers. They therefore smell and feel wonderfully natural.
Banana fibers are the fibers of the layered stems of banana trees used in agriculture. The intense brown color develops naturally when the fibers are dried in the sun for about a week. Then the individual strips are rolled into the characteristic, approximately 6 mm thick strands. Only old, dying banana trees are used for this material. This gives these crops a second life as a dimensionally stable and robust raw material for many handmade baskets here at Soeji.

This basket is handmade in Java, Indonesia.
In selecting our local producers, we value fair wages and good working conditions. Only experienced and adult artisans work in the companies from which we purchase our goods. No harmful chemicals are used in the production process. Since all work steps are carried out by hand, hardly any greenhouse gas emissions are generated during the production process. We ensure all this through regular on-site visits and permanent personal contact with the companies.
