Main material: banana fiber
Our baskets are made from vegetable fibers. They therefore smell and feel wonderfully natural.
Banana fibers are the fibers of the layered stems of banana trees used in agriculture. The intense brown color occurs naturally when the fibers are dried in the sun for about a week. The individual strips are then rolled into the characteristic, approximately 6 mm thick strands. Only old, dying banana trees are used for this material. This gives these crops a second life as a dimensionally stable and robust raw material for many handmade baskets here at Soeji.

This basket is handmade in Java, Indonesia.
When selecting our local producers, we value fair wages and good working conditions. Only experienced and adult craftsmen work in the companies from which we purchase our goods. No harmful chemicals are used in the production process. Because all work steps are carried out by hand, hardly any greenhouse gas emissions are generated during the production process. We guarantee all this through regular on-site visits and permanent personal contact with the companies.
