➤ The sustainable main material: banana fibres
Banana fibre is a natural, untreated plant fibre with a wonderfully natural feel. This abundant, renewable raw material comes from banana trees, which are widely grown in Indonesia. The fibrous bark peels off the trunk as it grows, is then collected and dried in the sun for about a week, which naturally creates its intense brown color. The individual strips are then rolled into the characteristic, approximately 6 mm thick strands, which are processed by our production partners on Java into traditional basketry.

This basket is handcrafted in Java, Indonesia.
In selecting our local production partners, we emphasize fair payment, safe working conditions, and reasonable working hours. We work exclusively with small family businesses with a maximum of 20 to 30 employees. All are experienced craftspeople of legal age. Especially older people, who can no longer work in agriculture, benefit from jobs in the craft sector, allowing them to use the skills they learned from a young age to earn money and pass on traditional production methods to the younger generation. They have often told us how happy they are to be able to create something meaningful with this work and earn a good income. Since all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process causes hardly any greenhouse gas emissions. We guarantee all of this through regular on-site visits and continuous personal contact with the companies.
